4 arrested for ‘buying, selling’ stolen fuel

Police arrested four men for allegedly buying and selling stolen fuel in the capital’s Agargaon area on Wednesday.

The arrestees are Abul Kalam, 56, Mohammad Sumon, 40, Mohammad Babu, 21 and Mohammad Shahin, 19.

About 600 litres of octane and petrol were seized from them, said HM Azimul Haque, deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Crime Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at his office on the day.

The drivers of about 50 government vehicles sold three to four litres of fuel to the arrestees per day, he said.

A makeshift shop of one of the arrestees bought about 200 litres of fuel every day, he said, adding that three shops bought about 18,000 litres of fuel from the drivers and brought to open market, he said.

The shops bought per litre octane at Tk 100 and sold Tk 128 to 130 while the shops bought per litre of petrol at Tk 110 and sold Tk 130.

They bought per litre diesel at Tk 100 and sold at Tk 108-110, said the DC.
