‘Bangamata inspired Bangabandhu quietly’

Speakers at a discussion on Monday said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib silently inspired Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to achieve the independence of the Bengali nation.

Bangamata actively supported Bangabandhu in every step of the long movement for independence of the Bengali nation, they said.

They made the remarks at a discussion organised by Bangamata Parishad at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital, marking the 92nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, wife of the Father of the Nation.

Abdus Salam Murshedy, managing director of Envoy Group and senior vice-president of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), was present as the chief guest.

Addressing the programme, he said, “Bangamata not only managed the family but also contributed to the politics and inspired our leaders and activities.”

“As long as Bangladesh exists, the name of Bangabandhu and Bangamata will remain alive,” he added.

Prof Farzana Islam, presidium member of Bangamata Parishad and former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), attended the programme as the key speaker.

Gias Uddin Mahmood, president of the Sonali Bank branch of Bangamata Parishad, Dr Md Aminur Rahman, managing director of Pan Pacific Sonargaon and additional secretary to the government, and Md Ataur Rahman Prodhan, CEO and managing director of Sonali Bank Limited, were present as special guests.

At the programme, Bangamata Prize was awarded to five dignitaries for their outstanding contribution to the country.
