The 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Monday in different Bangladesh missions abroad in a befitting manner.

She was born on August 8, 1930, in Tungipara of Gopalganj. On the fateful night of August 15, 1975, she was killed brutally along with Bangabandhu and most of the family members.

Marking the birth anniversary, the Bangladesh embassies, high commissions and consulates arranged elaborate programmes, including paying of homage at the portrait of Bangamata, reading out of special messages from President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is the elder daughter of Bangabandhu and Bangamata, and screening of the documentary made on Bangamata.

Special prayers were also held at the missions seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, Bangamata and other martyred members of their family.

According to press releases, the Bangladesh High Commissions in New Delhi, Colombo, Brunei Darussalam, embassies in Beijing, Tokyo, Washington DC, Bangkok, Doha, Athens, Bangladesh Permanent Missions in Geneva and New York, Consulates in Hong Kong, Kunming and Deputy High Commission in Mumbai observed the day.

Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam observed the birth anniversary with due solemnity. The day’s programmes started with the recitation of Holy Quran and special prayer for the departed souls of Bangabandhu, Bangamata and other martyrs.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Nahida Rahman Shumona read out special messages from the President and the Prime Minister.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo observed the day remembering ‘the spirit of Glorious Bangamata, the inspiration of indomitable Bangladesh’ and paid deep reverence, respect and admiration to the great lady with programme held at the Bangabandhu auditorium of the Mission.
