RCC takes city hospital under own management

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has resumed its city hospital with its own management for ensuring healthcare facilities to the public in general, including the marginalised and low-incoming people.

From now on, the hospital will extend different types of health services, including general, reproductive, antenatal care, normal and cesarean delivery, postnatal care, family planning, child healthcare, adolescent care and eye care, reports BSS.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by others concerned re-launched the hospital on Thursday saying the hospital will be transformed into a full-fledged medical college and hospital in future. “We have already submitted a project in this regard to the ministry of social welfare,” he added.

He said the hospital was leased to a private company named Celltron in July 2019. In March 2020, when the pandemic hit the country, the city corporation ordered to halt the operation of the hospital to make it a specialised Covid-19 hospital.

The 25-bed Rajshahi City Hospital was built in 1995 in the Raninagar area of the city to give medical treatment to the general people at a low cost.  At first it was named as Labour Hospital. It was renamed as Rajshahi City Hospital in 1999.

The activities of the outdoor department of the hospital were inaugurated on 16 May 2000. Maternity and indoor activities were introduced in the following year.

The hospital remained closed under the management of a private company since the mid of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The hospital was equipped with 20 modern beds, a cabin with AC, and an operation theatre. But both the doctors and patients were reluctant to come there lack of connecting roads, he said.
