CHATTOGRAM: Different low-lying areas in the port city submerged in knee-deep water owing to rain on Wednesday, causing immense sufferings to commuters and residents.

Sources said the rain that started on Tuesday evening continued till Wednesday afternoon.

Met Office in the city’s Patenga area recorded a total of 98.8mm rainfall till 12:00noon.

However, the logged-water drained out slowly as the day advanced.

During the rainfall, medication services at Chattogram Maa-Shishu O General Hospital were also hampered to a great extent as water entered the ground floor of the hospital.

The low-lying areas, including Sholoshahar Gate No-2, Chawk Bazar, Chandgaon, Bakolia, DC Road, Kapasgola, Badurtala, Muradpur and CDA Residential Area, were inundated during the rainfall.

Water entered the residences, business and commercial establishments in the areas.

Mentionable, the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) is implementing a mega project involving Tk 5,616 crore for addressing the long-drawn waterlogging crisis in the port city.
