Set pieces play key role in winning: Choton

Bangladesh women’s national football team head coach Golam Rabbani Choton said on Friday that the set pieces played a vital role in his plan to beat the physically strong Malaysia national football team. Bangladesh crushed Malaysia by 6-0 goals in the first match of the two-match series of FIFA Tier-1 Women’s International Football on Thursday. Bangladesh created several close chances from the set-piece including corner kicks, free kicks and long throw-ins throughout the match against their counterparts. “Set pieces are the main device in modern football. These set pieces also played a

vital role in my plan to beat the physically strong Malaysia. We have been doing a lot of work with set-pieces in training -- ball flight and speed, players’ position etc. So, the result is here,” Choton told The Daily Sun on Friday. Defender Akhi Khatun, who scored a brace from the set-piece, said that she did some special sessions on set pieces as she is the tallest player on the team. “My advantage

is my height. My coach told me to do some special tasks, especially on set-piece. Thus, I did some special sessions on set-piece and now got the result,” Akhi said.
