Woman held with 9 gold bars at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials arrested a woman along with nine gold bars, weighing around 1 kg, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.

The arrestee was identified as Morsheda Begum, daughter of Siraj Uddin of Patuakhali.

Ahmedur Reza Chowdhury, Deputy Director of CIID, said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG-148) landed at the airport around 10:30 am from Dubai via Chattogram.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of CIID challenged Morsheda Begum while he was crossing the green zone of the airport. Later, CIID team recovered 9 gold bars, from Morsheda after searching her body, he added.

The CIID official said that the gold bars are estimated to be worth about Tk 73 lakh. The arrestee was handed over to Airport Police Station.

A case was filed with Airport Police Station in this regard.
