Customs officials detained a Malaysia citizen along with 12 gold bars weighing 12kg at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early Saturday.

A flight (MH 196) from Malaysia landed at the airport around 11:45pm on Friday and the individual suspected of carrying gold was kept under surveillance, said Custom House Dhaka Joint Commissioner Md Al Amin.

Later, he was searched for gold at the archway and the bars were seized from his possession, the official added.

The passenger would be prosecuted, he added.
