Seven members of Bangladesh Test squad on Friday left for West Indies to take part in the upcoming two-match Test series against the hosts.
Mosaddek Hossain, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Rejaur Rahman Raja left for the Caribbean at 07:45pm while Mominul Haque departed at 10:30pm from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Mominul’s captaincy came under scrutiny following a string of low scores as the southpaw could only score 176 runs at an average of 12.57 in the last 15 innings, with just only fifty (88) against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.
Mominul also failed to reach double-digits in his last seven innings, having made only 24 runs starting from the tour of South Africa in April.
Bangladesh won three Tests and drew two while losing the remaining 12 under his leadership.
Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Test squad are expected to leave on June 6.
“Everyone tries to do well there. We will also try to do the same,” opener Mahmudul told reporters before departing for West Indies on Friday.
The opening Test will be played in Antigua on June 16-20 while the second Test will be played in St Lucia on June 24-28.
