No replacement for injured Shoriful in second Test

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday decided not to pick any replacement for injured pacer Shoriful Islam for the second Test against Sri Lanka, scheduled in Mirpur from Monday.

Shoriful was ruled out of the first Test against the visitors due to a wrist injury that he sustained while batting on the fourth day. The 20-year-old is also unlikely to take part in the upcoming Test series against West Indies due to the same injury.

Bangladesh will leave on June 6 to take part in the full-fledged series against West Indies comprising two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.

“Shoriful Islam had a contusion of the right hand while batting. After the fourth day’s play, an X-ray was carried out which has revealed a fracture on the base of the 5th metacarpal bone,” Physio Bayjedul Islam said in a statement.

“Such injuries tend to take around three weeks to heal followed by a couple of weeks’ rehab. He will not be available to play for four to five weeks,” he added.

Bangladesh squad: Mominul Haque (capt), Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Khaled Ahmed, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mosaddek Hossain, Ebadot Hossain, Shohidul Islam and Rezaur Rahman Raja.
