Two stabbed to death in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: A youth and a college student were stabbed to death and three others injured in separate incidents at Patiya upazila in the city on Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Md Sohel, 35, son of Ajahar Mian, of Patiya upazila and Asker Bin Tareque, 18, son of SM Tarek of city’s Enayet Bazar area while the injured were Md Sajjad, 20, Saddam Hossain, 30, and Joynal Abedin, 34, of the Patiya upazila.

The deceased Sohel was younger brother of Awami League-backed Chairman Abul Kashem of Kaliaish Union Parishad.

Sources said political rivals of Sohel attacked them with sharp weapons over previous enmity at Budhpura Bazar of Kaliaish union under the upazila around 10:30pm.

The attack left Sohel, Sajjad, Saddam and Joynal critically injured. The injured were whisked off to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors pronounced Sohel dead.

Officer in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim Majumder of Patiya police station said the incident took place over a conflict centring the UP election held three months ago.

Investigation was going on to identify the attackers and arrest them, said the OC. On the other hand, the college student Tareque was stabbed to death at city’s Cheragi Pahar area around 900pm.
