UK opens new partnership to educate girls

Popular News

The UK has launched a new global partnership with the private sector to improve girl-s' access to education and em-ployment in developing coun-tries, including in Bangladesh.

To mark International Women’s Day on Tuesday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson launched the new global partnership with 11 businesses aiming to provide high quality skills training to around one million girls around the world.

The UK government will contribute an initial £9 mil-lion, with businesses provid-ing £11 million in total, said the British High Commission in Dhaka.

“Improving girls’ access to education is a key part of the UK’s foreign policy, to en-sure we build back better from the pandemic and pre-vent a lost generation. In-vesting in education helps lift communities out of poverty and protects girls from early marriage, forced labour and gender-based vio-lence,” reads the high com-mission statement.
