10kg gold seized at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials seized 90 gold bars weighing 10.5 kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Thursday.

The gold was seized from an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines that landed at Dhaka airport from Dubai.

Kaniz Farhana Shimu, deputy director of CIID, said a Bangladesh Biman aircraft arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Dubai. Acting on secret information, customs officials seized 90 pieces of gold bars hidden under the seats.

However, it was not possible to arrest anyone in connection with the gold seizure.

The market value of the seized gold bars is around Tk 7 crore, she added.

A case was filed with Airport police station in the capital in this connection.
