Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed has sought apology from the students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for his offensive remarks about JU female students.

Jahangirnagar University said in a press release on Monday that SUST VC Prof Farid Uddin talked with JU VC Prof Dr Farzana Islam over phone about the matter.

“During the talks, VC Farid Uddin offered an apology to JU students and teachers,” said the press release signed by Acting Director of JU Public Relations Office Dr Md Mohiuddin Ahmed.

VC Farid alleged that his statement has been edited and spread through social media. This has caused anger among JU students and teachers. So, he has apologised for this.

He hoped that the liberal and progressive teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University would forgive him.

Earlier, VC Farid was allegedly heard making derogatory comments on JU students in a recently-leaked audio clip that “no one wants to marry JU female students easily".

Since the audio went viral, JU students have been protesting against the remarks and demanding his punishment.
