Bashundhara Group stands by people hit hard by cold

Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, brought relief to the destitute affected by cold by handing out blankets in different parts of the country on Thursday.

In Singra Upazila of Natore, 250 poverty-stricken widows, elderly and disabled people received blankets at a programme held on the upazila auditorium premises.

Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Shafiqul Islam, Vice-Chairman Shamima Huq Rozi, Mayor Jannatul Ferdous, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Jamail Akter, OC Noor-e-Alam and Press Club President Md Emran Ali Rana attended the event.    

Receiving a blanket, Rahima Bewa, a widow, said, “I along with my children and grandchildren suffer a lot amid biting cold. The blanket will keep us warm. I pray for gradual development of the Bashundhara Group.”

In Paikgachha Upazila of Khulna, as many as 400 vulnerable people were given blankets by the business conglomerate.

Lawmaker from Khulna-6 constituency Akhtaruzzaman Babu was present on the occasion.

Addressing the programme, the legislator said, “People of Khulna coastal belt are worst affected by natural calamities including storm, erosion and salinity. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly for the welfare of these people. People are benefiting from the charity of Bashundhara Group.”

Goroikhali Union Parishad Chairman Abdus Salam and Jubo League Khulna district unit Organising Secretary Jashim Uddin Babu, among others, were present.

In Domar of Nilphamari, 300 vulnerable people received blankets at a programme held in the precinct of Domar Women’s Degree College. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sahina Sabnam attended the event as the chief guest. Freedom fighters Ilias Hossain and Golam Mostafa, Domar Women’s Degree College Principal Shahinul Islam and Press Club President Asaduzzaman Chayan attended the programme. 

Speaking on the occasion, Sahina Sabnam said, “The government alone cannot find a solution to the problems of cold-hit people. Bashundhara Group always responds positively for the cause of humanity. It reached out to the poor amid Covid-19 pandemic. Now, the business conglomerate is distributing blankets. I tender my good wishes.”

In Khansama Upazila of Dinajpur, students of Hossainpur Darul Huda Orphanage Hafizia Madrasah received education materials, blankets and masks.

Madrasah Director Hafez Md Abdul Barek and others concerned were present on the occasion.
