Kutubdia Island to get power grid connectivity

Kutubdia Island will come under national grid of electricity coverage through 33 kilovolt submarine cable line connectivity.

Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Consortium of JATI-PSDC-Yongin signed an agreement recently under the initiative, said a news release.

Power Division Secretary Habibur Rahman was the chief guest while BPDB Chairman engineer Belayet Hossain was special guest at the function at Biddyut Bhaban in the capital.

BPDB secretary Mohammad Selim Reza and PSDC Director Ishtiaque Ahmed signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.

PSDC managing director Gias Uddin was also present in the meeting presided over by BPDB member (Distribution) Engineer Md Shamsul Alam.

Power Secretary Habibur Rahman said the government has taken alternative channel of electricity distribution sources to reach electricity coverage in remote areas through national grid.

“As part of this, the Kutubdia Island will be connected to national grid through submarine cable under the goal to achieve cent percent power coverage,” he said.

There will be developed a river crossing tower, 15 kilometer long over headed line of 33 kilovolt power, sub-stations and 5 kilometer sub-marine cable under the project worth of Tk 1.04 billion.

The project will be implemented 18 months period.
