High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram K. Doraiswami has said India remains committed to doing all it can to support Bangladesh’s efforts to further improve the public health and the welfare of its people.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a medical oxygen plant set up at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday. This is one of the two medical oxygen plants sent by the Government of India on September 2 to support Bangladesh’s fight against Covid.

This oxygen plant will be useful even after the pandemic, said the Indian envoy adding “as your closest neighbour and historic friend, India remains committed to doing all it can, within the limits of our capacity, to support Bangladesh’s efforts to further improve the public health and the welfare of its people.”

He said from the start of this unprecedented pandemic India has stepped up to offer all possible support to the world in the fight against the pandemic. “In our shared culture, India and Bangladesh have always seen the worlds as one family. And we both know that no one is safe until everyone is safe.”

Doraiswami said India’s unswerving and long-term commitment to its unique   friendship with Bangladesh reflected in the Covid-related health cooperation in the last two years.

India stood firmly with Bangladesh through wide variety of means including supply of PPE kits, medical equipment, testing kits, vaccines, and through capacity-building and experience-sharing workshops, he said and added that Bangladesh equally responded with generosity and great goodwill to send India medicine and other useful items during our second wave this summer.

Doraiswami said that the installation of the new medical oxygen plant at this 2300-bed premier Medical College & Hospital in Dhaka will further add to capacity and help cater to the needs of brothers and sisters in Bangladesh.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque, Senior Secretary of Ministry of Health Lokman Hossain Mia, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr. ABM Khurshid Alam, Principal of Dhaka Medical College Dr. Md. Titu Miah and Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Brigadier General Md. Nazmul Haque also spoke on the occasion.
