Abahani Dhaka Limited reached the Independence Cup semifinals crushing newcomers Bangladesh Army Football Club by 4-0 goals in the first quarterfinal at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sepoy Mustofa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on Friday.

Former Bashundhara Kings captain Daniel Colindres Solera, who is playing for the Abahani this year, scored a brace in the 45th and 70th minutes of the game while substitute forward Nabib Newaz Zibon and midfielder Emon Mahmud added one each in the 67th and 76th minute.

Abahani started to put pressure on Army after the 20-minute of the first-half, but their attempts went in vain. Just a few seconds before the half-time, Colindres ended the goal drought for his new team with an eye-catching right-footer.

Zibon, who came in place of Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento after half-time, doubled the margin with a header, off a cross from Colindres. After three minutes, the Costa Rican world cupper Colindres scored his second goal from a straight free-kick.

Another former Kings player Emon struck the fourth goal for his new club, off a cross from forward Rakib Hossain.

Meanwhile, Army defender Humayan Kabir Khan conceded a red card in the 81st minute due to illegally fouled forward Rakib.
