Former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan was reportedly preparing to fly abroad soon after his resignation from the cabinet.

He reportedly booked a ticket on Wednesday to go to Canada, airline sources said.

Murad’s whereabouts were not known after he submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday.

He is allegedly planning to leave the country after a process of legal action against Murad has started.

When asked about the matter, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "I don’t know this (news of Murad going abroad).”

“Whether he [Murad] will go abroad or stay home is his business. We have nothing to say about it.”

A BCL leader lodged a complaint against Murad with Shahbagh Police Station in the capital on Tuesday for casting slur on BCL activists of Dhaka University.

Harun-Ur-Rashid, additional deputy commissioner, Ramna Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said on Wednesday that he started an investigation into the allegation.

Pro-BNP lawyers threatened to sue Murad for his offensive remarks on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's granddaughter. Murad was compelled to step down following his derogatory comments and indecent behaviour with actress Mahiya Mahir.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) identified 36 links to Murad’s indecent remarks.
