Discussion on DU centenary held

A discussion was held at the playground of Dhaka University on the fourth day of the celebration of DU birth centenary and golden jubilee of Independence on Saturday.    

Presided over by former Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Shahadat Ali, the programme was attended by Awami League Presidium Member Begum Matia Chowdhury, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Pro-VC (Education) Dr ASM Maksud Kamal and former adviser of care-taker government Rasheda K Chowdhury among others.

In her speech, Matia Chowdhury said teachers and students of Dhaka University enlightened themselves by practicing free thinking. She hoped that they will build the university as an advanced institution keeping pace with the present world.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said Dhaka University has been the centre point of all movement since the language movement in 1952. Nobody can deny the contribution of Dhaka University from the period of liberation war to today, he added.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said he came into contact with Bangabandhu in the sixties when he was a student of Dhaka University. He said as a student of the campus he feels proud.
