‘Ruling party men rule opponents in UP polls’

Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader has alleged that the ruling party men are not allowing their opponents in the ongoing union parishad election.

“The Ongoing Union Parishad (UP) election is not being held peacefully. The incidents of capturing polling centres, violence, killing and snatching away ballot boxes are happening in the name of elections. After all, the ruling party men are not allowing their opponents in the election,” he said.

The Jatiya Party chief, also the deputy leader of the opposition in parliament, made the statements while addressing a shadow parliament programme titled ‘Government role in controlling market in open market economy is secondary’ arranged by Debate for Democracy at FDC auditorium in the capital on Friday.

GM Quader said, “People do not want to go to polling centres in fear of violence. The countrymen have lost their faith on voting. The voting system will have to be corrected before the national election.”

About the ongoing students’ movement for half fare in buses, Quader expressed his solidarity with the student and urged the government to meet their ‘rational’ demand.

Daffodil University played role as the ruling party in the shadow parliament while the University of Asia Pacific was the opposition party.
