A team of Dhaka Metro South unit of the CID also arrested 10 owners and employees of the factories.
Imam Hossain, additional deputy inspector general (Dhaka Metro) of the CID, informed this to reporters at the CID headquarters in the city on Wednesday.
The arrestees are Sohel Rana, 22, Abul Kalam, 50, Razib Molla, 20, Jasim Uddin, 40, Rafiqul Islam Sumon, 20, Nazir Hossain, 38, Shahin Sheikh, 28, Mohammad Likhon, 19, Arif, 18, and Habibul Islam, 52.
The officer said the fake cables were produced in the factories from the evening to morning and those were supplied to different shops in the capital’s Nawabpur and other parts of the country.
They used fake seals and logos imitating popular brands on the cables. The CID carried out an investigation into the recent fire incidents in the capital and other parts of the country and came to know that the incidents occurred due to fake and substandard electric wires.
Later, they began to search for the factories where counterfeited wires were being manufactured and finally found the three at Chandana Market on Kazi Abdul Hamid Lane.
