CHATTOGRAM:  A total of 42 persons from Chattogram, three hill districts and Cox’s Bazar were awarded as the best taxpayers in four categories for the 2020-2021 tax year.

Income Tax Department organised a ceremony to honour the tax payers at Bangabandhu Conference Hall of World Trade Centre in the city’s Agrabad area on Wednesday.

Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Mahbubul Alam was present as the special guest at the ceremony presided over by Chattogram Tax Zone-1 Commissioner and the ceremony organising committee Convener Syed Mohammad Abu Daud.

The best taxpayers of four categories – highest, long-term, woman and youth taxpayers, were awarded with crests at the ceremony. 

Under the CCC areas, Md Ali Meher and Syed Abu Md Shahjahan were awarded as long-term taxpayers while Md Kamal, Md Nader Khan and Md Nasir Uddin awarded as the highest taxpayer.

Besides, Jaben Nahar was awarded as the woman tax payer while Asif Mahmud as young taxpayer in the CCC area.

Bazal Ahmed and Md Nurul Islam were awarded in the long-term taxpayer category while Engineer Md Mohsin, Delwar Hossain and Md Mainul Hasan in highest, Jannatul Mawa in woman and Anwar Hossain in youth category in the district.

Addressing the ceremony, the CCCI President Mahbub Alam said everybody should pay tax for the development of the country and the authority should open tax offices in upazila levels to increase the revenue.

 “The tax department will also have to ensure harassment-free tax management system for the businessmen to encourage them,” he said.

Tax Commissioner AKM Hasanuzzaman, Tax Appellate Tribunal Commissioner Manju Man Ara Begum, VAT Commissioner Md Akbar Hossain, Tax Commissioner Md Mahmudur Rahman, Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Tax Lawyers Association President Enayet Ullah were present at the programme among others.

Under the CCC areas, Md Ali Meher and Syed Abu Md Shahjahan were awarded as long-term taxpayers while Md Kamal, Md Nader Khan and Md Nasir Uddin awarded as the highest taxpayer.

In Cox’s Bazar, Hazi Mohammad Siddique and Muhammad Anwarul Islam were awarded as the best taxpayers in long-term category while Mohammad Ayub, Engineer Md Alamgir and Muhammad Abu Kawser in highest, Rehena Begum in woman and Md Jiabul in youth category.

In Rangamati, Subhas Saha and Md Lokman Hakim were awarded as the long-term taxpayers while Lokman Hossain Talukder, Md Rafiqul Alam Liton and Sultan Kamruddin in highest category, Gita Dey in woman and Md Shakhwat Hossain in youth category.

In Bandarban, Kajal Kanti Das and Mohammad Nurul Absar were awarded in long-term category while Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Nurul Absar and Raju Barua in highest category, Hure Jannat Hurain in woman and Sayed Hossain Md Jewel in youth category.

In Khagrachhari, Md Abu Taleb and Ranjit Kumar Palit were awarded as long-term taxpayers while S Ananta Bikash Tripura, Md Nur Alam and Farida Akter in highest category, Beauty Deb in woman and Md Jahangir Alam Badsha in youth category.
