DoE DG, 3 others face contempt of court rule

The High Court has issued a contempt of court rule against Director General of Department of Environment (DoE) and three others as they failed to submit a report on actions taken against people polluting and grabbing Bongshi river.

A division bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Sunday, asking the four to explain as to why the court shall not draw a contempt of court proceeding against them for failing to execute a court order.

The other three accused are Dhaka deputy commissioner, Savar assistant land commissioner and the officer in-charge of Savar police station.

On October 28, 2019, Bangladesh Pratidin published a report on occupation and pollution of Bongshi river. According to the report, 65 persons and organisations are grabbing the river.
