Match reschedule to help us: Topu

Bangladesh veteran defender Topu Barman said that the match reschedule would be helpful for his side as they have got an extra day for the preparation ahead of their opening match of the Four Nations Invitational Tournament against Seychelles.

The game, which was expected to be held on Monday, was deferred for one day to Tuesday due to heavy rain and wet field. The match will take place at Race Course International Stadium in Sri Lankan capital Colombo at 4:30pm (BST).

“I think it’s good for us, we got an extra day for practice. Weather is also an issue here. However, we did practice for three days in Sri Lanka with this day,” Topu told media on Monday.

“Though the full team got just three days for training in Sri Lanka, overall, I think we had a good preparation. Our U-23 players just ended their AFC Asian Cup qualifiers campaign while others practiced in Bangladesh,” he said.

However, the men in red and green spent more than one hour in on-field practice under the heavy rain in Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Monday.

The 26-year-old defender also said that they are now focusing on improving their performances, game strategies instead of their opponents.

“Seychelles took part in Bangabandhu Gold Cup, but we haven’t played with them yet. We have watched them play, I think they came with the same squad,” Bangladesh defender concluded.

Another match between the hosts Sri Lanka and the Maldives, which was expected to be held on Monday at the same venue at 9:30pm, was also rescheduled to Tuesday due to the inconvenient weather.
