Ashraful claims hat-trick in NCL

Barishal Division’s Mohammad Ashraful stole the limelight as he claimed the first hat-trick in the ongoing 23rd National Cricket League against Chattogram Division on the opening day of the second round tier-2 match in Chattogram on Sunday.

Ashraful completed his hat-trick during the eighth over of Chattogram innings when he claimed the wickets of Sadikur Rahman, Mahmudul Hasan and Yasir Ali and he along with left-arm spinner finished with 5-53 and 5-15 respectively to bowl their opponents all out for 87 runs in their first innings.

Thus Barishal also earned a 59-run lead over Chattogram as they earlier made 146 runs in their first innings after they elected to bat first.

In Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka Metro off-spinner Sharifullah claimed 5-70 to help his side bowl out Rajshahi Division for 252 runs in their first innings.

Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain made 77 and 67 runs respectively for Rajshahi. Metro finished the opening day at 3-0, still trailing Rajshahi by 249 runs.

Meanwhile, in a tier-1 contest in Sylhet, Abdul Mazid (110) and Saif Hassan (102 not out) scored a hundred each as Dhaka Division made 293-3 against Rangpur Division at stumps on the first day. 

In the other tier-1 match, Sylhet Division finished the opening day at 30-3 after bowling out Khulna Division for 196 runs in their first innings after they sent Khulna to bat first in Sylhet.

Anamul Haque made the highest 55 runs for Khulna while Rejaur Rahman Raja finished with 3-31 for Sylhet.
