Abahani eyeing to defend Club Cup title

Defending champions Abahani Ltd Dhaka are eyeing the title of the ongoing Club Cup Hockey for the third consecutive time, though they have been struggling with several injuries before the final against title-contenders Mariner Young’s Club.

The final will take place today at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in the capital at 6:00pm.

Abahani captain Roman Sarker, Khorshedur Rahman and Mahbub Hossen were injured, Abahani coach Hedayetul Islam Rajib confirmed the Daily Sun on Friday.

“Roman didn’t take part in the last match. He is likely to miss the final. Khorshed and Mahbub are also injured, but we are expecting them tomorrow. Their participation will be confirmed during the warm-up before the game,” Rajib said.

Mariner captain Mamunur Rahman Chayan felt that his team are confident enough to beat the opponents and clinch the title of the tournament.

“Players are in good form. We have foreign players. I think we are more confident rather than Abahani before the final. We have no choice but want to clinch the title,” Chayan said.
