Abahani seal third straight title with dominant win

Abahani Limited clinched their third consecutive Bashundhara Dhaka Premier League (BDPL) title in style, overpowering arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club by six wickets in the final Super League clash at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Chasing 241, Abahani recovered from an early wobble to canter home in just 40.4 overs, thanks to a composed 78* off 65 balls from captain Mosaddek Hossain, who also claimed 2 for 39 with the ball to earn the Player of the Match award.

Veteran batter Mohammad Mithun anchored the chase with an unbeaten 66, stitching a 135-run stand with Mosaddek to guide their side to 243 for 4 with 56 balls to spare.

Earlier, Mohammedan posted 240 for 7 after being put in to bat. Captain Rony Talukdar (45) and Mahmudullah (50) provided steady contributions, while Ariful Islam’s quickfire 50 offered late impetus.

But Abahani’s bowlers, particularly Mosaddek and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury (2-46), kept things tight in the middle and death overs.

Despite losing Shahriar Komol early, Abahani’s top and middle order remained largely untroubled. Jishan Alam’s brisk 55 set the tone, while Mithun and Mosaddek’s mature partnership took the game away from Mohammedan.

This commanding win capped off another dominant season for Abahani, reaffirming their status as the most successful force in Bangladesh’s domestic 50-over competition. Mohammedan, despite a spirited campaign, once again fell short at the final hurdle.
