SAVAR: Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) has developed a new breed of chicken that produces more meat.

BLRI named this new variety chicken as Multicolor Table Chicken (MCTC) which is fully adaptable to the county’s changing weather.

Scientists of the BLRI developed this chicken breed through continuous selection and blooding process using native germplasm.

This chicken has light yellow to yellowish black gray feathers at one day of age. Later, it will turn to multicolour like the next domestic chicken. The colour of legs of this breed is light yellow or black.

It will weigh one kilogram in just 56 days and the taste and quality of meat is like that of domestic chicken. As a result, demands of these chickens are increasing day by day.

A senior scientific officer at the BLRI Shakila Farooq said, ‘Entrepreneurs can benefit by farming this chicken breed as this breed is fully tolerant of local weather.’

‘Moreover, the mortality rate of MCTC breed chickens is very low. Various studies conducted by BLRI have found a maximum mortality rate of 1.5. So it offers low risk and high profit to entrepreneurs,’ she added.
