Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) are working tirelessly to enforce the ban on catching, transporting, selling and hoarding hilsa.

The navy is conducting special operations in the sea and coastal areas to execute the 22-day ban, which began on October 4 and will continue until October 25, in a bid to ensure safe spawning of the fish during its peak breeding period.

Under the ‘In Aid to Civil Power’, seven ships of navy are conducting ‘Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign-2021’ in the sea and coastal areas and inland rivers of the country.

As part of the operation, BNS Madhumati in St. Martin’s, Cox’s Bazar and Kutubdia areas, BNS Barkat in Barisal area, BNS Teesta in Pirojpur area, BNS Atandra in Chandpur area and BNS Gomati in Khulna area are carrying out special patrols.

On the other hand, members of BNS Turag in Bagerhat area, LCVP-012 in Patuakhali area and members of anti-smuggling cell of the navy in outer anchorage area of Chattogram are conducting operations to implement the ban.
