Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina switches off lights and air conditioner with her own hands before leaving room with an aim to save energy, Prime Minister’s energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said on Sunday.
“If we can follow the Premier and create public awareness, we will be able to save at least 50 percent energy,” the energy adviser said.
There is a government instruction for limiting ACs to 28 degree Celsius, he said, adding: “We are not aware of the energy saving as we leave house with switches of room lights and ACs on.”
He asked to Sustainable and Renewable Development Authority (SREDA) to take a pilot project to save energy in building.
The government will help them who will take initiative to build energy saving building, the adviser said.
At the webinar, SREDA member Farzana Momtaz, said the government is working to save 15 percent energy in the current year by efficient use and another 20 percent by 2030.
“If the consumers are aware, then the government may save 29 percent energy from residential use,” she said.
