Smuggled Indian saris seized in Netrakona

NETRAKONA: Members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday claimed to seized Tk 25 lakh worth saris smuggled into this country from neighbouring India.

The smuggled saris were seized in the border areas of Durgapur in Netrakona district, officials said.

Netrakona Battalion (31 BGB) Commander Lt Col ASM Zakaria said that acting on a tip-off, a BGB patrol team raided an area between Bharatpur and Barmari and seized the smuggled Indian saris in the early hours of Wednesday.

“However, the smugglers managed to escape. The value of the seized Indian saris is estimated to be Tk 25,11,000,” he said, adding the goods have been handed over to the Netrakona customs office.
