258 more hospitalised with dengue

The number of dengue patients has been increasing day by day in the country while around 90 percent of the total dengue cases have been reported in Dhaka city.

The dengue situation is not stable as the number of single-day dengue cases still over 200 and the dengue patients are also dying every day.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 258 more dengue patients were hospitalised and one died in the country in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

It said 5,917 dengue patients were hospitalised in 24 days of August while 2,286 in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January this year.

Some 26 dengue patients died in August and 12 in July in the country, the DGHS added. The DGHS said 212 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 46 patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday.

A total of 988 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 89 outside the city, it said. The number of deaths from the dengue disease has also been increasing day by day as a total of 38 deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.

However, unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least 41 people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 8,575 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country, including in Dhaka city, from January to August 24 this year.

The DGHS has been recording over 200 dengue cases per day since August 1 while most of the cases have so far been reported in Dhaka city.

Meanwhile, amid the rise in dengue cases, the DGHS announced six hospitals in Dhaka dedicated to treating dengue patients.
