The people who have taken the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine have no need of SMS to receive the second dose.

The first-dose vaccine receivers can directly contact their nearby vaccination centres and take the second dose without any wait for an SMS. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) made the announcement on its verified Facebook page on Monday.

In the announcement, the DGHS has urged the first-dose AstraZeneca vaccine receivers to contact vaccination centres as early as possible to take their second dose.

The second doses of the vaccine are now being inoculated after the country has recently received a good number of AstraZeneca vaccine.

Bangladesh received 7,81,440 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from Japan on August 21.

The country also got 2,45,200 AstraZeneca doses on July 24, 7,81,320 doses on July 31, and 6,16,780 doses on August 3 from Japan under the COVAX facility.

Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said on Monday that some six million doses of Pfizer vaccine are expected to arrive in September.

On 31 May, Bangladesh received over 1 lakh Pfizer vaccines through Covax.
