Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate of the country, stood by the distressed people in various areas of Pabna with relief on Saturday.
The Kaler Kantho, one of the reputed dailies of Bashundhara Group, provided the relief through its social organisation Shuvasangha.
About 400 ultra-poor families received the relief items from the Bashundhara Group at Gurudaspur Govt Pilot Model High School premises. Each bag of the relief contained 10kg rice, 3kg lentil and 3kg flour.
Marium Begum, 85, lost her husband 35 years ago. She is living alone after marrying off four daughters. The relief items made her happy and emotional to such an extent that she shed tears.
Speaking on the occasion, Upazila Parishad chairman Anwar Hossain said “I thank Bashundhara Group for distributing relief among poor amid the corona pandemic. I hope that relief distribution will continue.”
UNO Tomal Hossain, Mayor Shahnaj Ali Molla, AC Land Abu Russel, OC Abdur Razzak, and Shuvasangha director Jakaria Zaman were present, among others.
In Boraigram upazila, 400 poor families received relief at Boraigram Govt Honours College
Attending the programme, Upazila Parishad chairman Siddikur Rahman Patwary lauded Bashundhara Group for reaching out to helpless people as the economic hardship of the poor people has been intensified by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Bashundhara Group is distributing relief across the country. I thank to Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan for such charity,” he said.
UNO Md Jahangir Alam, mayor KM Zakir Hossain, Boraigram Govt Honours College principal Md Ismail Hossain and Shuvasangha director Jakaria Zaman were present on the occasion.
