“Sheikh Hasina is our mother. Mother feeds her children. She has accomplished her motherly job. We pray for her welfare and long life,” says tea vendor Mizan Sheikh.
Hailing from Gauhardanga village under Patgati union of Tungipara upazila in Gopalganj district, he came up with the reaction after receiving relief gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana on Thursday.
The relief items are being sent to the poor people of every village under two upazilas of the district. Starting on Wednesday, the relief distribution programme will end on Friday.
Every packet contains 5 kg rice, 2 kg potatoes, 1 litre oil, half kg salt and 1 kg sugar wrapped in poster bearing pictures of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and Sheikh Kamal.
Speaking on the occasion, Tungipara Awami League General Secretary Md Babul Sheikh said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana procured the relief with their own fund and sent those to be distributed among the poor in Gopalganj.”
In Kotalipara, 4,000 families are receiving relief from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana. The relief distribution started in Kushla union parishad on Wednesday.
Around 400 distressed families of Sadullapur union received relief at Talimpur Telihati High School in the upazila.
Upazila parishad Chairman Bimal Krishna Biswas said, “People of Gopalganj were deprived of socioeconomic and infrastructural development before Awami League came to power. Now, the situation has changed. The area has seen much development and employment opportunity.”
Kotalipara upazila Awami League General Secretary Sheikh Ainal Hossain said, “The relief items of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana were sent to the people of 11 unions and one municipality.”
UNO Ferdous Wahid, former upazila Awami League General Secretary SM Humayun Kabir, former Mayor HM Ahidul Islam and Kushla union parishad Chairman Quamrul Islam Badal were present, among others.
