Tech giant Google has paid Tk 22.9 million in value-added tax (VAT) to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Promila Sarkar, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka South VAT Commissionerate, on Thursday told reports, “Google paid VAT amounting to Tk 5.6 million against the returns of last May and another 17.3 million for June.”

Earlier, Facebook filed VAT returns of around Tk 24.4 million in June this year.

Earlier in May, Google officially took the Business Registration Number (BIN) as a non-resident organisation from the Dhaka South VAT Commissionerate.

In November last year, the High Court directed to collect all kinds of due, revenues and VAT and tax, from internet-based companies including Facebook and Google.
