Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) announced new convening committees of Dhaka north and south city units on Monday.

Former Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice-President Aman Ullah Aman and former footballer Aminul Haque were made the convener and the member secretary of the 47-member convening committee of Dhaka north city unit respectively.

On the other hand, BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdus Salam was made the convener and Rafiqul Alam Majnu the member secretary of the 49-member convening committee of Dhaka south city unit.

However, the previous committees of the units were also declared dissolved due to expiry of tenure, said a press release signed by the party Organising Secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince, also the in-charge of the party central office.

Earlier on April 19, 2017, BNP divided its Dhaka City unit into south and north ones and formed committees of the two new units.

The outgoing partial committees of both the units were announced on April 18, 2017 through a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

M Abdul Qayyum and Ahsan Ullah Hasan had been made the president and the general secretary of the 66-member committee of Dhaka north unit while Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Kazi Abul Bashar had been made the president and the general secretary of the 70-member Dhaka south unit respectively.

The partial committees had been asked to complete the formation of full-fledged committees in a month. But they failed to do so.

In July, 2014, the outgoing unified Dhaka city unit convening committee had been made with Mirza Abbas as the convener and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel as the member secretary.
