RANGPUR: Sixteen more patients died of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the total number of casualties to 918 in the division.
Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 44,173 with diagnosis of 233 positive cases afresh on Friday in all eight districts of the division.
The new 16 casualties were reported from Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts.
"A total of 399 Covid-19 patients, the highest number in a month since June 30 last, died in Rangpur division," he said.
The district-wise breakup of the total 918 fatalities now stands at 200 in Rangpur, 57 in Panchagarh, 66 in Nilphamari, 55 in Lalmonirhat, 53 in Kurigram, 176 in Thakurgaon, 268 in Dinajpur and 43 in Gaibandha districts of the division.
"The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.08 percent in the division," Dr Siddiqui continued.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 44,173 as 233 new patients were diagnosed after testing 884 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 26.36 percent on Friday.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,16,571 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 44,173 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.40 percent in the division.
Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients reached 33,841 with recovery of 165 more infected patients on Friday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 76.61 percent.
The 33,841 recovered patients include 6,877 of Rangpur, 1,613 Panchagarh, 2,878 Nilphamari, 1,826 Lalmonirhat, 2,342 Kurigram, 4,475 Thakurgaon, 11,194 in Dinajpur and 2,636 Gaibandha districts.
Among the 44,173 infected patients, 595 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 25 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 33,841 patients and 918 deaths while 9,243 are remaining in home isolation.
"Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 8,67,762, and among them, 3,92,422 got the second dose of the jab till Friday in the division," Dr Islam added.
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed concern over the deteriorating Covid-19 situation in the division.
He especially called upon all people to strictly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, wear masks and maintain physical distance to contain the rising of Covid-19 positivity rate for remaining safe," he added.
