A mobile court headed by Madaripur Deputy Commissioner Rahima Khatun on Friday afternoon fined four launches on the Banglabazar-Shimulia route for carrying extra passengers.

It is learned that the Deputy Commissioner Rahima Khatun visited the Banglabazar Ghat when she came to know that the number of homebound passengers was increasing on the Banglabazar-Shimulia route ahead of Eid and launches were carrying extra passengers.

She fined four launches for carrying extra passengers and warned launch owners to not carry extra passengers on the launch. BIWTA’s Banglabazar launch ghat traffic inspector Akhter Hossain said, “MV Nafi Khan, MV Amjad, MV Aleya and MV Akash were fined Tk 5,000 each for carrying extra passengers.”

“There has been a crowd of homebound passengers since Friday morning though there are a very few Dhaka-bound passengers at Banglabazar Ghat,” the launch ghat traffic inspector said, adding that a total of 6 launches were carrying passengers on the route.
