The daily corona cases have continued going up in the country with the positivity rate nearing 32 per cent in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a report that 199 people have died of coronavirus and 11,651 infection cases have been detected during the period.The DGHS also said it was the highest number of single-day coronavirus infection cases in the country.
Bangladesh has seen more than hundred single-day deaths from the virus for the last 12 consecutive days while the daily detection of over 6,000 cases for 11 days in a row.
A total of 1,289 people died and 75,961 got infected with the virus in eight days of July in the country which is the highest compared to the same number of the days during the corona pandemic.
The report further said the highest corona deaths were reported in Dhaka division on Thursday.
Of the total 199 deaths, 65 were reported in Dhaka division, 37 in Chattogram, 15 in Rajshahi, 55 in Khulna, 10 in Mymensingh, nine in Rangpur, five in Sylhet and three in Barishal division.
Of the 11,651 new cases, 4,949 were reported in Dhaka division, 439 in Mymensingh, 1,936 in Chattogram, 1,048 in Rajshahi, 744 in Rangpur, 1,732 in Khulna, 414 in Barishal and 389 in Sylhet division, the DGHS data said.With the detection of new 11,651 corona cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases has risen to 989,219. The daily infection rate has soared to 31.62 percent during the time.
A total of 15,792 corona patients have died in Bangladesh so far. The death rate is 1.60 percent.
Around 5,844 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of people recovered to 8,56,346 in the country till the day.
The recovery rate has declined to 86.57 percent.
The DGHS said infection detection rate has also risen as 14.41 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with corona till the date while 31.62 percent samples diagnosed with the virus in a day.
A total of 36,850 samples, out of 38,024 collected, were tested at 605 labs in the country during the period, the report said. A total of 68,66,682 samples have been tested so far across the country.
The first corona case was detected in the country on March 8 last year while the first death from the virus was recorded on March 18 the same year.
Both infections and fatalities started to decline from the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year. But corona deaths and cases started rising further from March 10.
Local hospital sources said the coronavirus infection cases have been increasing now simultaneously in Khulna and Dhaka divisions while a number of severe patients from different parts of the country are rushing to hospitals in the capital as they are not getting enough facilities in the local hospitals.
The general and ICU (Intensive Care Unit) bed occupancy also has been increasing day by day as many of the hospitals in Dhaka and Khulna divisions have been flooded with the Covid-19 patients beyond the capacity of the respective hospitals, the sources added.
The hospital sources said coronavirus infected patients in Jashore district are being compelled to get treatment under the open sky as the 250-bed Jashore General Hospital has run out of beds because of fresh surge of the virus infection.
According to the DGHS, the bed occupancy has crossed the existing capacity with Covid-19 patients in Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka city and Chattogram Medical College Hospital in Chattogram city.
The same condition also prevails in Mymeinsgh Medical College Hospital, Feni upazila health complexes, Cumilla Medical College Hospital, Mohammadi Hospital in Bogura, Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Kushtia General Hospital, Magura Sadar Hospital, Barguna district sadar hospital and Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, it added.
