Bangladesh Bank (BB) has reviewed the banking hours from 10am to 2.30 pm from Thursday amid the lockdown to halt the sharp rise of Covid-19 in the country.
The central bank’s department of off-site supervision on Tuesday issued a notification in this regard adding that banks will remain open from 10 am to 2.30pm for their customers while the bank branches would be opened up to 4pm for necessary office activities.The new time will continue until July 14, the circular added.
Last week, the central bank had limited banking hours till 1:30pm during the seven-day strict lockdown till July 7.
Banks will remain closed on Friday, Saturday and on Sunday to curb the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a BB notice.
During this period, the head offices of banks will remain open while state-owned banks will keep open one branch at the district level and one branch at the upazila level. Private banks will keep open one branch at the district level and maximum two branches outside the district level with limited manpower.
Banks in both land and sea port areas will remain open incorporation of local administration. The bank authorities will take measures to provide transportation support to their staff in consultation with the local administration.The BB circular said that banks have to ensure uninterrupted online service and internet banking operation for 24 hours a day. The BB instruction also asked banks to keep adequate banknotes at ATM booths with ensuring health protection and sanitisation measures.
