Hotels, motels, and guest houses are reopening in Cox’s Bazar tourist zone from tomorrow on a limited scale following health guidelines in response to the demands from the tourism sector stakeholders.
However, the hotel authorities have been asked not to let anyone book a room without an urgent need and no dine-in will be available at the restaurants.All tourist spots will also remain closed.
Md Helaluddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division, announced the government’s decisions on Monday while addressing a Covid-19 Prevention Committee meeting with tourism stakeholders.
Later Additional District Magistrate Abu Sufian informed the media about the latest developments.
“Hotels, motels and guest houses are being reopened conditionally in response to demands from the tourism sector stakeholders,” he said.
“A monitoring committee has been formed. The committee gave necessary directions to the hotel-motel authorities regarding adherence to health guidelines,” the additional district magistrate said, adding that if any negligence is found in following the health guidelines, the monitoring committee will close the establishments again. Hotel, motel, and guest house owners said no tourist can book a room for the purpose of travelling, according to the decision of the government.
Rooms can only be rented for any urgent need, they said.Only 50 per cent of the rooms would be rented out and the restaurant in the hotels will only be open for room service. The swimming pool will be closed while dine-in will not be allowed in the restaurants.
Besides, hotel, motel, and guest house owners have been asked to use disinfectant spray and temperature measurement equipment at the entrance of the hotels. Hand sanitisers should be provided in all rooms including in the lobby.
