Agriculture Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said the country’s farmers can now harvest their produces without any hassle, which is a reflection of benefits of agro-mechanisation.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the present government is working relentlessly to make the country’s agriculture sector modern and profitable,” the minister said.

He was speaking at the National Workshop on “Agricultural mechanization project through integrated management” at Krishibid Institute in the capital Dhaka on Monday.

“It has been possible to quickly and successfully harvest boro paddy this year due to increase of the uses of combined harvesters and reapers,” Dr. Razzaque said.

He said, “A project worth Tk 3,020 crore has been taken after giving importance in mechanization of agriculture.”                 “Besides, 284 posts of agricultural engineers have already been created at the field level to create skilled manpower to accelerate agricultural mechanization,” the minister said.

He added, “This is because the agriculture sector is being mechanized while the benefits of this mechanization are being appeared.” Speakers at the event urged the government to formulate a policy to accelerate agriculture mechanization in Bangladesh.

Some farmers said they harvested their paddy before any natural calamity hit their lands and also at lower costs this season.

They, however, said sometimes they had to face trouble to repair their machines when they could not harvest paddy.

The minister said, “Importance is being given to facilitate the procurement, purchase, use and repair of agricultural machineries.”

“We want to make agricultural equipment available locally in phases,” he assured.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) DG Md. Asadullah presided over the session, also attended by senior secretary at Agriculture Ministry Mesbaul Islam, additional secretary (extension) Md Hasanuzzaman Kollol, former DG of DAE MD. Hamidur Rahman, BRRI DG Shahjahan Kabir and PD of the project Benajir Alam, among others.
