Eid vacation for banks, FIs starts from tomorrow

Banks and financial institutions (FIs) will enjoy Eid vacation from tomorrow (Thursday), according to a central bank notice issued on Tuesday.

Commercial banks in industrial areas around garment factories will remain open on May 13 to facilitate the payment of salaries and bonus of workers on the occasion of holy Eid-ul Fitr.

The bank branches in garments industrial area like Dhaka city, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Ashulia, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chattogram areas should be kept open to ensure adequate security, as per BB notice.

The Department of Off-Site Supervision of BB issued a notification in this regard.

Md Serajul Islam, spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank (BB) told the daily sun that Eid vacation will be started from Thursday, but bank branches in the industrial hub asked to keep open on Thursday with adequate man power and securities.

He also mentioned that as per the government directive the bank officials and employees will have to stay at their duty station during the vacation.

The payment related divisions of bank including head quarter of commercial banks have to keep open on Thursday following the central bank directive.

   The BB instructed banks to keep adequate banknotes at ATM booths with ensuring health protection and sanitisation measures.

In addition, BB also asked bank to ensure uninterrupted internet banking service with adequate support services.
