With a mask working as a bulwark against the coronavirus, the government has issued an eight-point advice on how to use it correctly.
The suggestions were issued on Thursday to curb the spread of the virus, said a PID handout.According to the handout, the government has taken a tough stance to ensure the use of masks outdoors in a bid to contain the virus transmission.
Law enforcement agencies have also started taking stern action against those who are violating health guidelines, it said.
According to the World Health Organization, the use of masks is the best way to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infections. Everyone must follow the government’s instructions to use a mask to prevent coronavirus infection when going out for work.
The suinstructions are: It is the best way to use a multi-layered surgical mask and it should be used for one time only.
Many people cover their faces but keep noses open while wearing masks, which is not correct. Instead, the upper part of a mask should be attached with the nose and the chin should be covered with the lower part. The mask should be worn covering the entire face.
Many lower the mask to the chin while speaking which is not right either. As a result, germs attached to the mask spread easily.A surgical mask should not be used for a long period. A mask must be used for maximum one day and it should be destroyed after the use.
Masks must be worn in places where it is difficult to maintain social distancing (public transport, markets and shopping malls). Besides, people should keep a distance from others and disinfect their hands.
Ordinary cloth masks must be cleaned after the use. Wearing an unclean mask is more likely to cause the disease.
The WHO recommends disinfecting used masks. The mask should be washed in soapy water, dried in the sun and disinfected.
Wet masks should not be worn. This increases the risk of infection.
When one goes outside home, he/she needs to keep two masks in a bag. If one is damaged or gets wet for any reason, the other one should be used.
