National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has advised the government to increase ICU (Intensive Care Unit) facilities and central oxygen supply in district hospitals throughout the country.

The committee came up with the suggestion in its virtual meeting held on Wednesday with committee president Prof Dr Mohammad Shahidullah in the chair, said a press release on Thursday.

The national committee said there has been a huge surge in coronavirus infection and death in India as double variant of the coronavirus has been found there.

If the double variant enters Bangladesh, the situation may turn critical, they said.

They suggested ensuring a 14-day quarantine for passengers coming from India and increasing surveillance along the border area.

The national committee also called for reducing coronavirus test fee in private and public hospitals, as RTPCR test kit price has come down.
