Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Tuesday urged everyone to wear face masks and strictly adhere to health guidelines in shopping malls to reduce the infection of coronavirus.
He came up with the call while exchanging views on how to check the spread of coronavirus with leaders of Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association on Tuesday.All police commissioners, range DIGs and district police superintendents were present online at the meeting which was held at the conference room of the police headquarters.
The IGP said both shopkeepers and buyers must wear face masks. Sanitizer should be provided and body temperature must be checked when entering shopping malls, he said.
He appealed to the traders, shop owners and the general public to buy and sell in compliance with health rules ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
The IGP said, “If we all abide by the government rules and regulations, both coronavirus infection and death rates will be reduced.”
Md Helal Uddin, president of Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association, told the meeting that they have arranged to clean people’s hands with sanitizer at the entrance of every market. They will make sure everyone wears face masks, he said, adding that disinfectant tunnels have been installed in front of big shopping malls.
He said traders throughout the country are very careful about coronavirus infection.Additional IG (A&O) Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, Additional IG (Finance) SM Ruhul Amin, Additional IG (HRM) Md. Mazharul Islam, DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam along with senior police officers and leaders of Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association were present.
