Bangladesh weightlifter Juhora Khatun Nisha has the chance to clinch a gold medal in the women's 81kg weightlifting category around 17 months after the 13th South Asian Games ended in Nepal as the Indian lifter Sharsti Singh found positive in dope tests.
“We are 99 percent confirm that we will get another gold medal in weightlifting. Silver medalist Nisha has the chance as the Indian gold medalist was found positive in dope tests,” Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation Vice-President Mohiuddin Ahmed said on Thursday.Nisha won a silver medal in the event by lifting a total of 168kgs - 73kg in snatch and 95kg in clean-and-jerk -- for her silver in SA Games 2019.
Meanwhile, weightlifters Monira Kazi and Ziarul Islam managed to leave for Uzbekistan on Thursday to compete in the ongoing Asian Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, after the country's top lifter Mabia Akter Simanta missed flying on April 19 due to travel restriction.
Monira and Ziarul will compete respectively in the women's 81kg and the men's 96kg weight category events in the Asian meet.
