Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 98 deaths from coronavirus and 4,014 cases in the country during the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
Of the 98 deceased, 62 were men and 36 were women. Of them, two were within 11-20 years; one was within 21-20 years; two were within 31-40 years old; 14 between 41-50; 20 within 51-60 and 59 were above 60 years old.Among the deceased, 46 died in different government hospitals, 46 in different private hospitals across the country and six died at home.
Moreover, 55 of the victims hailed from Dhaka, 20 from Chattogram, six from Rajshahi, five from Khulna, three from Rangpur, four from Sylhet and five from Mymensingh.
Total 1,042 patients died in the last 11 days as 95 deaths were reported on Wednesday, 91 deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday, 112 on Monday, 102 on Sunday, 101 on Saturday, 101 on Friday, 94 on Thursday and 96 on Wednesday.
Some 4,014 new coronavirus infection cases have been detected in the last 24 hours raising the total number to 7,36,074. The daily infection rate has declined to 14.63 percent in the last 24 hours which was 15.07 percent on Wednesday, 16.85 percent on Tuesday, 17.68 percent on Monday and 19.06 percent on Sunday.
Earlier, 4,280 new infection cases were detected on April 21, 4,559 on April 20; 4,271 on April 19; 3,698 on April 18; 3,473 on April 17; 4,417 on April 16; 4,192 on April 15; 5,185 on April 14; 6,028 on April 13; 7,201 on April 12; 5819 on April 11 and 5343 on April 10.
The DGHS said total number of deaths from the deadly pathogen has reached 10,781 with 98 new deaths in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning. The total death rate has stood at 1.46 percent.Some 7,266 more patients have recovered from the fatal disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recovery to 6,42,449 in the country till the day. The recovery rate has risen to 87.28 percent in the last 24 hours which was 86.77 percent on Wednesday.The DGHS said 13.95 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 14.63 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.
A total of 27,429 samples, out of 27,787 collected, were tested at 349 labs in the country during the period, the report added. A total of 52,49,683 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.
The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
The number of coronavirus tests and new infection case detections started to decline in the first week of July last year and the fall continued till the first week of March this year.
However, the numbers of infections and deaths started rising further from March 10 and jumped to the highest single-day cases on April 7.
According to the DGHS, the hospitals overwhelmed with the coronavirus infected patients across the country including in Dhaka as the number of severe patients have increased for last few weeks.
It said 775 severe patients were undergoing treatment in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) in Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and at corona unit in other hospitals across the country.
